Metropolitan Airport Commission – General Office Renovation
Ground Command
Since 1968, Miller Dunwiddie has been an integral partner to the Metropolitan Airport Commission (MAC), which oversees MSP International Airport and six general aviation airports. Our agile planning and design capabilities have enabled MAC’s facilities to remain highly capable amid continuous changes in the airline industry. When MAC asked Miller Dunwiddie to remodel their general offices, we applied our deep understanding of this organization’s responsibilities to contemporary office design strategies to create a safe, efficient, and comfortable workplace for our friends at the airport.
This project centered around a new lobby to welcome employees and visitors. We designed a distinctive glass entry point that visually corresponds with a three-story atrium. In both spaces, the use of glass mirrors the commanding simplicity of airport terminal design. It also provides views of the MSP runways from the lobby and offices, emphasizing the organization’s role in airport activities. This visibility works in tandem with integrated technologies and security features to enhance safety. Our interior finishes include modest applications of wood paneling and rich natural colors to add comfort and reassurance. A strong reception area provides personal contact and wayfinding cues. This facility manages activities in the skies while remaining down-to-earth.
