MSP Airport – Terminal 2 Gate Expansion

Miller Dunwiddie has provided design services to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport since 1963. We have been a constant presence in efforts to improve and expand the facility as air travel has evolved over the years. We are currently involved in a significant, multi-phased re-envisioning of this critical transportation hub. One project that helps meet the needs of record-high numbers of passengers is an expansion we designed that adds four new gates to Terminal 2.

The 45,000-square-foot addition includes new restrooms and other passenger amenities. In addition to enabling smaller airlines to add more flights, the expansion supports the Metropolitan Airport Commission’s sustainability initiatives. Our design integrates ecological features such as a green roof and living wall. The vegetation that covers these structures will reduce heating and cooling costs, help manage rainwater runoff, and provide biophilic benefits to the people who use the space.

Our firm will continue to influence every element of the airport environment, including ground transportation areas, wayfinding within the terminal, retail and food marketplaces, and gates. We take pleasure in bringing new ideas to these dynamic spaces with the constant goal of creating a harmonious travel experience.
